PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Training

Overview

Pharmacy Residency

The Department of Pharmacy Services under the guidance of the mission and values of University Hospitals is dedicated to providing the highest quality of pharmaceutical care. Our pharmacy team of over 150 members consists of clinical pharmacists, clinical pharmacist specialists, certified pharmacy technicians and support staff. Our team is responsible for the safe and cost-effective use of medications through the application of specialized knowledge, skills and professional judgment. Our team members serve as patient advocates when planning and implementing pharmaceutical care of our patient’s medical conditions. In addition to providing 24-hour clinical and distributive services, our team is committed to the education and development of the next generation of pharmacists through pharmacy medical education programs, which include practice experiences, internships and residencies.

University Hospitals Department of Pharmacy Services offers a variety of educational programs to help train the next generation of pharmacists. Our training programs provide pharmacy students, interns and residents with hands-on experience providing pharmacy services and patient care within a health system hospital setting.

Graduating PGY2 Specialty Residents will:

  • Ensure safe, effective, appropriate drug therapy and prevent, identify and resolve drug-related problems
  • Present as a competent, confident and compassionate practitioner
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the advancement of the profession and continued personal growth
  • Possess comprehensive health-system pharmacy skills that promote future professional growth
  • Create, promote and participate as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify opportunities for improvement within a practice and practice site
  • Provide education to professional and nonprofessional audiences, utilizing effective communication skills
  • Demonstrate a foundation of leadership skills in pharmacy practice
