Neurology Residency, Pediatric

Welcome to the Pediatric Neurology Residency in the Division of Pediatrics at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.

About the Division

University Hospital’s Division of Pediatric Neurology is recognized as a center of excellence. Among the best programs in the nation, our team has the expertise to accurately evaluate, diagnose, and treat the full range of neurological disorders in children. We specialize in using the latest, most scientifically advanced diagnostic equipment, therapies, techniques and medications available. Our goal is to train the next generation of Child Neurology physicians, physician-scientists and clinician educators. Residents are educated in an environment that fosters excellent clinical care, scholarship and research, and camaraderie.

The Department of Pediatric Neurology at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital has a very busy outpatient practice throughout Northeast Ohio, with 15,000 outpatient visits a year. We also run a very busy in-patient and consultative services at the main campus in Cleveland. The pediatric intensive care unit and neonatal intensive care unit make up a large part of our consultative services. With a focus on family-centered care, we involve and educate patients and their families every step of the journey – so together we can successfully manage any neurological condition. Because our team of neurologists have the experience and specialized expertise across a full range of neurological services, we are able to help patients with any need, including but not limited to: Epilepsy, Genetic metabolic diseases, sleep issues, headaches, neuro-oncology conditions, Behavioral and cognitive neurology (including ADHD and autism), and complex care of medically complex children including those with cerebral palsy. Many in our team are involved in regional and national clinical trials and other research projects focused on advancing the quality of care and treatment of children with neurological conditions. Thanks to our collaborative approach to medicine, our patients benefit not only from the neurology research resources available, but also from any of the pediatric specialties available at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.

Epilepsy

Since 2001, the Epilepsy Center at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s, led by specially-trained pediatric epileptologists, has been recognized by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers as a Comprehensive Level IV Pediatric Epilepsy Center – the highest designation possible.

Our Level IV Epilepsy Center manages the most complex forms of intensive neurodiagnostics monitoring, as well as more extensive medical, neuropsychological and psychosocial treatments. This national designation also includes complete evaluations for epilepsy surgery, including intracranial electrodes, and provides a broad range of expert surgical procedures.

Specialized Spinal Muscular Atrophy Clinic

Among the cutting edge medical interventions provided at UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital is our Spinal Muscular Atrophy treatment program. Prognosis for children with this devastating diagnosis has drastically changed over the last four years with new innovative treatments which have become available. We are excited to offer all of these treatments including gene replacement therapy to our patients with SMA at UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.
