A Life-Saving Option For Those Facing Limb Amputation for PAD

If you have ulcers or gangrene because of peripheral artery disease (PAD) and your doctor has recommended limb amputation, another option can save your limb -- and possibly your life.

Two years after diagnosis, half of all patients with ulcers or gangrene due to vascular disease die, says Mehdi H. Shishehbor, DO, MPH, PhD, director of the Interventional Cardiovascular Center and co-director of the Vascular Center at UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute. In this video, Dr. Shishehbor describes the importance of getting a vascular workup if you've been diagnosed with PAD and explains why amputation is not always the answer.
